Thank you to those who supported THE DROP 104.7 on Colorado Gives Day!

Due to high winds and fire danger, XCEL Energy is periodically cutting power to our transmitter site on Lookout Mountain. This will result in periodic broadcast outages which will persist until fire danger subsides. Thank you for your understanding and support! You can listen online and on THE DROP 104.7 app.

Kid Astronaut’s Spontaneous Performance for THE DROP 104.7

Will Ornberg

Kid Astronaut once again is taking his music to the intergalactic level.

Musician & local cosmonaut Kid Astronaut stopped by THE DROP 104.7’s studio to give us the rundown on his upcoming set at the Sun Valley Viaduct Night Market and to exclusively premiere his new, self-produced single, “1000 Times.”

What was originally just supposed to be an on-air interview turned into a spontaneous performance.

Immediately after his fantastic interview with SugaBear & La Molly last week, Kid pointed to his electric guitar and asked, “Would it be possible to do an acoustic set?”

As a producer, these are the opportunities I impatiently wait for. I was already visualizing the look of the video: something Tiny Desk inspired with stripped down vocals and just his guitar. Just let him sing.

“If you can wait 20 minutes, I will go home and grab my mic & mixer and we’ll record it right here in the office,” I told him.

He obliged.

My car was in the shop, so in a panic, I took my first Veo scooter ride home. I’d rate it a 3 out of 5 — decent but not groundbreaking.

I grabbed my equipment and bolted back to the office. We set up two cameras, plugged the microphone in and set the mic stand on two spare CD boxes in the office. The result was a magical & moving performance.

“1000 Times,” the song he performed, is Kid Astronaut’s newest release. His minimalist performance was poignant. He sang about betrayal, frustration, and self-defense.

The song is now currently on streaming platforms, and we love everything about it.

We’re anxiously waiting to see him take the stage Saturday at the Sun Valley Viaduct Night Market at 8:40 pm.

Community like this keeps the job more and more rewarding.
