Community Corner | Sun Valley Kitchen and Community Center
During the latest Community Corner, SugaBear and La Molly sat down with the team behind Sun Valley Kitchen and Community Center to talk about the organization’s impact on one of Denver’s most historic and diverse neighborhoods. Executive Director Nick Talarico shared how the nonprofit supports Sun Valley residents through food access, youth empowerment, holistic health, and community-building initiatives, all while helping preserve the neighborhood’s history during a period of rapid redevelopment and change. The conversation highlighted how Sun Valley Kitchen continues to create spaces where residents feel seen, supported, and connected.
The episode also featured powerful stories from local chefs, Ms. Najah and the Nguyen family, who spoke about how food became a bridge to community after immigrating to Denver. Through opportunities provided by Sun Valley Kitchen, they’ve been able to share their cultures, grow their confidence, and connect with neighbors through cooking. Their stories reflected the heart of the organization’s mission-creating belonging through shared experiences, opportunity, and care for one another.
The conversation also previewed this weekend’s Sun Valley Viaduct Night Market, happening May 16, 2026 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. under the Colfax Viaduct at Empower Stadium’s South Lot B. The free community event will feature more than 40 vendors, an international food market with cuisines from around the world, live music on the THE DROP 104.7 Main Stage, a beer garden, family activities, and even a free roller-skating rink. The Sun Valley Viaduct Night Market has become a celebration of Sun Valley’s culture, creativity, and resilience, and an opportunity for the rest of Denver to experience the community firsthand.
