Indigo Jones Interview: Stella Standingbear

Indigo Jones, is hanging out with you on Saturdays 7 pm to midnight and Sundays 10 am to 2 pm, giving you the best in contemporary and alternative R&B and Hip Hop — plus gems from local artists who keep Denver’s sound alive

In this episode, Indigo Jones sits down with the phenomenal Stella Standingbear — an Indigenous rapper, songwriter, producer,  creative director, and proud member of the Oglala Lakota Nation.

Raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Stella found her passion for music early, using it as a way to represent her tribe and embrace her culture. Her viral anthems "Skoden," "Pray 4 U," and "Mmhmm" have reached millions worldwide, earning her multiple NAMMY (Native American Music) Awards and making her the first Lakota artist to do so.

Beyond her artistry, Standingbear is a powerful advocate for Indigenous communities and the MMIW (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women) Movement. Her music is more than a cultural moment — it's an act of resilience and revolution.

In this interview, Indigo and Stella discuss her current Off the Rez Tour, what it means to be an Indigenous woman making history, and how success has shaped her continued commitment to showing up — both as an artist and as a voice for the Lakota Nation. Stella Standingbear is more than her music; she is a vessel of strength, power, and perseverance.
