Put You On | Rochelle Jordan

Born in London to British-Jamaican parents, Rochelle Jordan moved with her family to Toronto’s east end in the early ’90s. Growing up, music was always in the air. Her father was a drummer and rubbed off on her with Northern soul, reggae, and dancehall early on. Her older brother was also a musical influence, where she recalls hearing his records through her bedroom walls: funky UK house, late-night drum and bass, garage, all with gospel-soaked samples.

Her sound is an eclectic mix of sample-heavy ’90s pop, old-school UK house and garage, futuristic electronic bangers, floaty late-night ballads, and forward-thinking hip-hop… Let me Put You On.

The new album Through The Wall and is her first album release since 2021 following Play With The Changes. From then until now, she has been releasing singles and remixes, and has featured on some big records, like KAYTRANADA’s “Lover/Friend” from his 2024 album, Timeless. But teaming up with heavy hitting dance producers is nothing new for Jordan, having Chicago house music DJ Terry Hunter produce the track “Crave” and electronic production prodigy Byron The Aquarius teaming up with fellow producer KLSH on the album title track “TTW."

“It carries so much power to me. It’s magic. It’s hypnosis. It’s a mantra. This track sets my soul free, so I’m happy to share this with the world, and I hope it touches everyone. These lyrics are my self-talk when I’m affirming all the reasons why I stay so resilient. Why I never quit on myself or the things I wanted to attain in my life. The truth of leaning into your purpose usually is a difficult and complicated journey. How long getting to your goal takes sometimes, down to the haters that want to see you fail for whatever reason, down to your self saboteur. All of that WILL make you feel a way but that is a part of the journey to purpose. This song is a mantra for bussing through the dark walls of your own mind. Getting to the other side of all of what could be holding you back. To all my babies that are listening to this one, big up yourself always because faith and hard work toward your vision will eventually place your dreams at your feet. It’s just a fact.… That and, like I said, let them say what they want to, still here and coming with a bang each and every time.” says Jordan.

At the end of the day, this release feels like more than just an album, it’s a reminder to keep going. It speaks to the real ups and downs of chasing your purpose, from self-doubt to outside noise, and turns all of that into motivation. The message is simple but powerful: believe in yourself, put in the work, and don’t let anyone knock you off your path. No matter what gets thrown your way, this record shows that staying true to your vision always hits harder in the long run.

Rochelle Jordan will be performing at the Larimer Lounge in Denver on April 7th. Hope to see you on the dancefloor.
