Behind the Beats: Cardi B

Mang-Yee Reverie, a Panamanian-born, Brooklyn-bred, and internationally experienced radio personality, has a rich background in the music industry

Denver didn’t just show up for Cardi B’s “Little Miss Drama” tour last month: we took over. The energy at the arena was pure electricity from jump, with the “Bardi Gang” fully committing to the assignment.

Everywhere I looked, the crowd was a sea of pleated skirts, high socks, and ties, as fans leaned hard into the schoolgirl theme. I also stayed in theme with gray knee-high socks and a school girl fit. It felt less like a concert and more like the wildest pep rally I’d ever been to.

Cardi started the show telling the crowd to leave all their problems and worries outside for the next few hours. And, Denver, you did. This concert was probably the most fun show I'd attended in some time. Cardi herself was clearly feeling the Mile High love, pausing the set to announce to the roaring crowd that Denver was officially her "best and loudest Midwest stop" yet. We might be in the Rockies, but for a night, we were the undisputed winners of the tour.

I managed to snag a spot in the bleachers directly in front of the stage as a VIP guest, giving me an incredible bird's eye view of the entire production. From there, the choreography looked like a high-speed chess match, and seeing the pyrotechnics hit while looking at the stage was absolutely breathtaking.

The magic didn’t stop when the house lights came up though. I headed backstage for the meet-and-greet, which turned out to be the coolest part of the night. The highlight was watching Cardi spend some genuine, high-quality time with a Make-A-Wish kid. Seeing that side of her, soft-hearted and truly present, reminded everyone why she’s stayed at the top for so long.

To top it all off, she actually gave THE DROP 104.7 a personal shout-out video! Getting that recognition for the station directly from the source was the ultimate "pinch-me" moment.

Denver definitely set the bar high for the rest of the tour.
